Breast Augmentation Mastopexy

Breast Augmentation Mastopexy, also known as a breast lift with implants is an operation in which breasts are lifted to a higher position on the chest wall while simultaneously improving breasts’ volume and shape. This combined procedure is required when breasts are small and show drooping behavior. Breast augmentation mastopexy is in high demand than single procedures.

Who should go for Breast Augmentation Mastopexy?

Patients with deflated breasts due to the aging process or pregnancy are recommended to undergo this combined procedure. In some cases, patients are treated with the breast implant alone. While some patients are good candidates for a breast lift alone.

Various Types of Implants in Breast Augmentation Mastopexy:

In this combined procedure, the breasts are lifted and enlarged. The breasts are enlarged by placing various types of implants into the breast. These implants include:

  • Silicone – Round, smooth-walled silicone implants provide a softer and more natural feel to the patients.
  • Saline – These implants were used when the silicone implants were unavailable. The saline implants are less expensive and can be placed through a small incision.
  • Teardrop versus round-shaped – Teardrop implants were expensive and used earlier in the past. But now, round-shaped implants are used for cosmetic mastopexy.
  • Textured versus smooth –Textured implants are not used due to their long-term safety issues, hence in place of them, smooth walled implants are used.
  • High, medium or low profile –The profile means how tall the implant is relative to the base size. The surgeons will decide the profile based on the patient’s conditions.

Indications of Breast Augmentation Mastopexy

When the breast lift does not give the desired look, then the surgeons recommend breast lift surgery or augmentation mastopexy surgery. In this surgery, the surgeons will improve the size and shape of the breasts using implants. This procedure is recommended when the patient is having:

  • Large areolas and stretched skin
  • Improper volume and shape of the breasts
  • Discharged nipples (nipples falling below the breast crease)
  • Areolas and nipples pointing downwards
  • Elongated and flatter breasts
Risks from Breast Augmentation Mastopexy

Risks associated with this combined procedure include:

  • Anaesthesia complications
  • Asymmetry of breasts
  • Breast sensation
  • Total or partial loss of nipple due to restricted blood flow
  • Blood clots
  • Cardiac complications
  • Infection
  • Accumulation of fluid
  • Poor incision healing
  • Improper position of the implant

Besides these surgery risks, there are some risks with implants also. These include:

  • Rupture or leakage of the implant
  • Wrinkling of skin over the implant
  • Thickening of scar tissue around the implant
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Fatigue
